Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use the Invoice Generator?

Fill in your Business Details and the Client Details, add Invoice Details like invoice number, date and GST rate, then add Line Items with description, quantity and rate โ€” the amount and totals update live in the preview. Click Print / Save PDF to get a print-ready invoice.

Is this invoice generator free to use?

Yes, this invoice generator is completely free, requires no sign-up, and runs entirely in your browser โ€” your business and client details are never sent to a server.

How is GST calculated on the invoice?

Enter the GST rate (e.g. 5%, 12%, 18%, 28%) and the tool calculates the tax on the line items' total and splits it into CGST and SGST for intra-state sales. For a standalone GST breakdown on any amount, use the GST Calculator.

Can I save or print the invoice as a PDF?

Yes โ€” once you've filled in the details, use the print option and choose "Save as PDF" in your browser's print dialog to get a print-ready PDF copy of the invoice.

What's the difference between an invoice and a quotation?

An invoice is a formal demand for payment issued after goods or services are delivered, while a quotation is a price estimate sent before the work is agreed upon. To send a price estimate to a client first, use our Quotation Generator.

How do I check my profit margin on the items I'm billing?

Use our Profit Margin Calculator to work out your markup and selling price from cost before adding items to the invoice.

What should I use for the invoice number?

Under Indian GST rules, tax invoices must use a consecutive serial number unique for each financial year (e.g. INV-2026-001, INV-2026-002), with no gaps or repeats. This tool does not auto-generate or store invoice numbers, so keep your own running sequence to stay compliant.

Does this invoice support IGST for inter-state sales?

No โ€” this generator always splits the GST rate equally into CGST and SGST, which applies to intra-state sales (buyer and seller in the same state). For inter-state sales, the full GST amount should be charged as IGST instead; in that case, manually note IGST on the invoice or use the line item description to indicate it.
