How do I use the Percentage Calculator?
For each subject, enter the Subject Name, Marks Obtained and Out of (total marks). Use "+ Add Subject" or "− Remove Subject" to adjust the number of rows, then click "Calculate Percentage" to see your overall percentage, total marks obtained, total marks and grade, plus a subject-wise breakdown table.
How is the overall percentage calculated?
Overall Percentage = (Sum of Marks Obtained ÷ Sum of Total Marks) × 100, across all subjects entered. This is the standard way most schools and colleges compute aggregate percentage from individual subject marks.
How is the grade determined from the percentage?
This calculator uses a general grading scale: 90%+ → A+, 80–89% → A, 70–79% → B+, 60–69% → B, 50–59% → C, 40–49% → D, and below 40% → F (fail). Actual grading scales vary by school, college or board, so check your institution's specific criteria.
Can I calculate percentage for a single subject or test?
Yes. Remove extra subject rows using "− Remove Subject" until only one remains, then enter the marks obtained and the total marks for that subject to get its individual percentage and grade.
How many subjects can I add?
You can add up to 15 subjects using the "+ Add Subject" button. Each subject's marks obtained and total marks are added together to compute the overall percentage and grade.
How do I convert this percentage to CGPA?
Most boards use the reverse of the CGPA × 9.5 formula, so Percentage ÷ 9.5 ≈ CGPA. If you have grade points and credits instead of marks, use our CGPA Calculator to compute CGPA directly and convert it to percentage.
Does this calculator account for subjects with different maximum marks?
Yes. The overall percentage is computed from the sum of marks obtained divided by the sum of total marks across all subjects, so a subject with "Out of 50" contributes proportionally less to the total than one with "Out of 100". This is a weighted aggregate, not a simple average of each subject's individual percentage.
Why might the overall percentage differ from the average of the individual subject percentages?
If subjects have unequal total marks, a simple average of each subject's percentage can give a different result from the weighted overall percentage this calculator shows. For example, scoring 90/100 in one subject and 30/50 in another gives a simple average of 75% per-subject, but the overall (weighted) percentage is (90+30)/(100+50) = 80%.
